Research
Low Cost
Eyeglasses would like to create an open dialogue with others who are
interested in a deeper understanding of the problem of lack of glasses
and possible solutions available. To that end, we will be posting research
we have conducted (see White Papers and Data), and have a list of links
to other organizations whose activities are of interest.
Surprisingly,
the development and health communinities have largely ignored refraction
as an area for research and programs, focusing instead on disease-based
vision problems. This is true despite the overwhelming importance of
uncorrected refraction errors. As a result, there is little information
available to the person concerned with refraction. We hope that this
site helps.
We are
also collaborating with the MIT Media Lab's ThinkCycle (www.thinkcycle.com)
initiative, where design problems related to the developing world are
posted for students and engineers to contribute to. The site includes
a number of interesting areas, including relevant patents related to
eyeglasses, important articles, and design challenges.
